Health Part 46

November 07, 2009 By: shoppingauthor Category: Health No Comments →

I used to read every article on health that came out, but lately I’ve given this up as a bad habit. I think it would be fair to say I was a health nut. It’s very easy to become obsessive in an area of your life once you have been obsessive an another and that was me because after being as fat as I was and then losing the weight, I wanted to stay that way.

Reading articles on health helps me to keep up with the latest news in exercise, diet, supplements, and other aspects of longevity. But nowadays, when I read an article on health, it just fills me up with anxiety, After all, one article on health will say one thing, another day and another article says something else. Take soy for example, one group of scientists tell you it’s good for you then another group say don’t touch it because it promotes the development of female hormones in men amongst other side effects. I swear, all I want is to find the perfect diet, the perfect exercise routine, and the perfect lifestyle to keep myself as healthy as I can for as long as I possibly can.

It just got to that stage where everything I read contradicted the other about the best way to live your life. Who can forget the uproar when the American public was told that three of their favorites, chocolate, coffee and alcohol were all bad for you. You see, I have always enjoyed dark chocolate, a glass of Guinness, coffee and the odd glass of red wine, all of which are supposedly bad for your health, but now the opposite is true as long as it’s in moderation. I can see that very soon these same experts will tell us to forget everything they have told us about our cholesterol levels and to start consuming cake, fast foods and ice cream again.

All that has come from this as far as I am concerned is a general disbelief of anything these so called health gurus say and I’ll look after myself than you very much. Of course it won’t stop me reading articles on health but in future I will decide how much of it I take notice of. Still, I don’t doubt that reading the odd article on health will be worthwhile because I can pick up some good exercise tips and how to eat a balanced diet, the rest will be up to me. It all comes down to this; I need to do what feels right for me, so If I can do this, I can live a healthier, happier, and longer life.

Achieve Better Health With Dietary Supplements

November 06, 2009 By: shoppingauthor Category: Health No Comments →

In the year 2005, more than 187 million consumers depended on daily dietary supplements to provide the nutrients omitted from the daily diet…nutrients that are needed to attain and maintain optimum health.

Maintaining a strong immunity level built up through proper nutrients can contribute greatly to keeping you out of the doctors office. On the other hand, people with low immunity levels tend to contract many illnesses and often suffer for a longer duration than healthy individuals.

The DSEA (Dietary Supplement Education Alliance) found in a recent study (11/05) that certain dietary supplements helped seniors to live longer and to live more independent lives.

Further evidence of dietary supplement benefits are acknowledged by the DSIB (Dietary Supplement Information Bureau) who also reported that nutritional supplements help people live longer, healthier lives.

Dietary supplements can also help reduce healthcare costs in the billions of dollars by off-setting healthcare expenses through better health attained and maintained by receiving proper nutrients that are needed in the body.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) recently issued a health claim for omega-3 fatty acids. Several other dietary supplements are scheduled to be added to the list in the near future.

Qualified health claims for dietary supplements are now being released to the public. As healthcare costs and health insurance skyrocket, preventive self care seems to be more widely accepted and practiced.

Many individuals can potentially benefit from the use of dietary supplements. The following dietary supplements may be of value to the immune system:

- Vitamin C provides antioxidant to cells, and may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and some forms of cancer.

- Vitamin E may reduce free radical damage and cut the risk of diabetes, and cancer.

- Vitamin A helps support mucous membranes, and the skin.

- Selenium may help protect against prostate cancer and is known as an anti-aging nutrient.

- Coenzyme Q10 may help generate energy for metabolism.

- Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart and the nervous system.

People that use dietary supplements can save themselves money, save the healthcare system money, and in general have a more healthy and productive life.

Remember…You still have to eat healthy. Get as many vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids in your diet as is possible. But, you can also consider taking a dietary supplement to make-up for what is lacking. With soil depletion and other environmental deficiencies so prevelent, taking dietary supplements is a good way to make sure that you get all the nutrition that you may need.

Constipation Home Remedies That Will Keep You Regular

November 06, 2009 By: shoppingauthor Category: Health No Comments →

Many people suffer with constipation and though it may appear to be an amusing situation for those looking in, for the person who has to live with this condition it can be a serious problem. Constipation home remedies are often the first port of call for someone who has constipation and with good reason; most of these home remedies work and work very well.

The symptoms of constipation can range from nausea, leg pains, headache, flatulence, fever and loss of appetite. All of which should not be underestimated and can become a problem in themselves. It should be noted at this point, that even if bowel movements are occurring, there could still be constipation. This is because if you have irregular bowel movements i.e. they do not happen every day and are easy to pass, you could also be considered to be constipated.

For virtually everyone who has constipation, their first port of call when looking for constipation home remedies should be to look at their diets. Plainly put if you put in the right amounts of foods, in the right amounts of combinations, then it should be easy to come out and that will limit the need for exploring further constipation home remedies.

Generally we should all aim to eat more fruits and more vegetables. This will add bulk and fiber to the diet and so help with relieving constipation. However, try to avoid those vegetables that are known to encourage flatulence: these include cabbage, sprouts, beans and foods such as nuts and also some dried foods. Processed, fatty foods and fried foods are also best avoided.

Instead one of the fruits that should be added to the diet are figs. Well known throughout time as one of the constipation home remedies, figs can be soaked over night in water and be ready for breakfast the next morning. You can also use figs as the base for a home made blended drink. Simply throw in three or four figs, add some oat milk and some prune juice and blend. This is a super drink that when taken regularly for several days will usually help to relieve constipation.

Wholegrain breads and cereals should also be added to the diet of anyone who has irregular bowel movements or is constipated. These breads and cereals help to add the necessary bulk that our bodies need to remove the waste. In the same way the fiber that these foods posses, is also vital to keep the bowels healthy and functioning.

Add exercise to your daily regime and drink plenty of water as this will help to keep your system working healthy and encourage the waste to naturally and easily leave the body.
