Quite often nowadays there is too much emphasis placed on function to the detriment of form. Think of the days when people considered household objects, like telephones and radios, as fashion icons and status symbols. Many people saw these as representing a golden age of telephone design.
Perhaps one of the best examples of this is the eternally classic retro telephones. Most people are familiar with the look and sound of these telephones, whether they were lucky enough to have been born during the time of the originals or not. if I hear the distinctive sound of an ‘old fashioned’ mobile ring tone, I am immediately transformed to an era of black and white movies. A new generation is out there expecting modern technology, but also appreciating the classic styles of a bygone era.
By combining modern technology with classic style and elegance from a bygone era, you are in a ‘win win’ situation with a retro telephone. The curves on the phones are my favourite physical attribute. This feature of the telephones was also picked up by car designers, who softened the ugly shapes that were common during the seventies and eighties. This makes them great and unusual gifts for any occasion.
Just like retro phones, another usual gift to consider as we inevitably more from summer to winter might be hot water bottles. The days of going to Boots to buy Granny a last minute Christmas present of either a blue or a pink bottle are thankfully long gone. In this day and age they are big busines, as they come in a vast range of funky styles, shapes and colours. When considering lower back and neck pain, I automatically think of the cushion shaped bottle made from fully recyclable material.
