A new report just published by the British Childrens society has made it clear that children are not getting to play outdoors enough due to the paranoia of their parents and guardians over safety.
Overly cautious parents are keeping their children indoors where they are allowed and even encouraged to watch far too much television. This brainwashes them into becoming lazy fast-food consumers who are destined for a life of obesity and an early grave.
Encouraging children to play outdoors more is clearly the responsibility of parents and it starts at home. The earlier children get into active outdoor play the better as the habits they establish when they are young are likely to last a life time. That doesn’t mean that they will want to continue to play with their swing slide playset into their twenties but it should mean that they develop a preference for healthy activities over sedentary, fattening ones.
Every parent and prospective parent has a responsibility to be aware of what influences their children. What is good for them and what is bad for them. Parents who are too scared to let their children out of the house to play are doing their offspring more harm than good.
