Van Scrappage: Does this affect the van leasing market?
On 28 September 2009, the government announced plans for a further £100 million funding for the scrappage scheme. This means that the scheme will now cover up to 400,000 vehicles.
The scheme rules will be unchanged except for the date of the first registration in this country, applying only to the purchasing of a new vehicle, whilst not extending to van contract hire.
Citroen sold more vans under the scrappage discount scheme than any other manufacturer for the third month in a row during November.
The company sold 152 LCVs during November an impressive 26 per cent of the total number of LCVs sold through scrappage.
It sold 548 vans during September, October and November through the scrappage scheme – 25.7% of the total number.
Since the government’s scrappage scheme was launched in the spring, there have been 825 Citroen registrations.
Robert Handyside, Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager for Citroen, said: “Many UK companies, with older vehicles, have been very willing to upgrade to a modern.”
Figures released in September named Citroen as the number one choice for new van buyers.
One in ten vans sold during the month was made by Citroen. The total reached was 2,876 registrations, with sales split fairly equally between the Nemo, Dispatch and Relay vans.
