Do we eat more takeaways when the weather gets colder?
When the clocks go back and the nights get darker, we head to work in the darkness and get home in darkness. It is miserable, cold and sometimes wet, the sofas looks appealing, the idea of going into the kitchen to prepare something or going out to a food shop is not an appealing thought.
Conducting the survey by www.just-eat.co.uk the UK’s leading online takeaway portal, asked 3,015 people in the UK what they estimate they spend on chinese food per month combining the data from the company’s online figures. The results showed that on average:
·In the UK we spend approximately £550 per person on takeaways – £45 per month.
· One in three people would rather stay in on the weekends with their friends and family, indulge in a takeaway and stay in their pajamas than get glammed-up and hit the town.
The weather was a large influence in the decision, as
· In the warmer months, 76% of people said they prefer home cooked food using the bbq and eating alfresco.
When the summer comes, most of the UK deserts the homeland and heads off for sun and sea in hot countries, often spending £550 on a seven day break. When the winter months begin to arrive, out comes the computer and a quick search for the local takeaway options, the order is made amounting to approximately £550 per year.
Our research shows that when the clocks go back in October:
· Takeaway orders more than double with 104% more in sales
· Women said they preferred to stay in with a boyfriend of have a girl’s night in, than brave going out in the cold.
With the approach of winter, we see Christmas just around the corner:
·38% of women claimed no guilt for ordering a takeaway meal than possibly during summer time.89% of those asked agreed that a takeaway on the weekends is something that they look forward to.
·The number of people who buy a takeaway on both Friday and Saturday night was a staggering 61%.
