Treating rheumatism with medicinal herbs
Rheumatism or rheumatic problem is a relatively non-specific term for various medical problems affecting the joints and connective tissue. Some of the usual symptoms of rheumatic conditions are chronic, widespread pain, fatigue, and heightened pain that occurs as a response to pressure. Other symptoms may include tingling of the skin, prolonged muscle spasms, weakness in the limbs, nerve pain, functional bowel disturbance, chronic sleep disturbances and many other. Although the treatment can vary since there are many conditions that could be refered to as rheumatic in nature, there are some herbal remedies that can help in most cases. In this article we will mention two most well known remedies: Stinging nettle and horsetail.
The first of the mentioned, stinging nettle (Urtica dioica and also Urtica urens) is a very common herb that can grow in height up to 50 cm, while the large nettle can grow over one meter in height. Nettle has many uses in herbal medicine: it is used to clean the body from various toxins. Nettle tea has also been used for treating various bile and liver problems. Along with all the mentioned effects, it is also known to be a good herbal remedy against the condition that you are, as the reader of this article, most interested in – rheumatism.
The second one is even more known and used – horsetail (Equisetum arvense). Horsetail is also a relatively widespread medicinal herb that has many applications as well. Not only is it good for treating rheumatic probolems, but it is also known to reduce cough and other problems of the respiratory system, and leg swelling as well. It is also often a part of herbal tea mixtures that are used for general body cleansing.
These are just some of the many herbal remedies that can be effective in treating and even preventing rheumatic problems, and they can be used either seperately, or even better, one can prepare a herbal mixture, by mixing same amounts of every of the above mentioned herbs. This mixture can than be taken few times per day, throughout the period when one has rheumatic problems.
