Since the release of electric patio heater, there have always been people who have argued against their use. The most common complaint against them is that they are bad for the environment, due to the way they generate the heat. Other popular complaints are that they waste hear and as a whole they waste lots of energy.

The most common of complaints, that they damage the environment, is true. The way a standard patio heater creates heat is by burning propane gas. As with everything that is burned, carbon dioxide is created in the process, which causes damage to the environment.

The second complaint that they waste heat is also true. Although the tops of patio heaters are designed to reflect heat towards the ground rather than letting it rise up, a huge amount of heat is still wasted in the process.

However, a heating company called Chillchaser has developed a brand new range of patio heaters that look to solve all the problems.

Rather than using a standard method of generating hear, Chillchaser have come up with a new way to do it. They use carbon fibre rods to create the heat. The biggest advantage of using carbon fibre rods for heating is that they emit no CO2 while creating the heat. Despite this sounding like these new patio heaters have no damaging effects for the environment, they do slightly. Because it doesn’t use gas, it does need electricity to power it, however, the energy needed to power the carbon rods still means the new patio heaters cut emissions by 50%.

This new method of generating heat within patio heaters also combats the second complaint, that lots of heat is wasted. This method of carbon fibre heating means that the heat created is more focues, meaning less is wasted.

The final advantage that Chillchaser heaters have over others is that they include an infrared sensor. The infrared sensor detects movement infront of the heater, if no movement is detected, the heater turns off. This feature means that less heat is wasted if the heater is ever forgotten about.

By the looks of these new patio heaters, Chillchaser have managed to changed patio heaters forever and many eco-warriors won’t be able to moan about these heaters. I suppose that the only complain that there would be is that there is no need for patio heaters in the first place, which Chillchaser can’t solve.

I would love to see how Chillchaser would improve a standard dehumidifier; maybe build in a weather station to it, that would solve two problems in one.
