Is Your Dog Aggressive? Follow These Tips To Get Rid Of Dog Aggression
One of the toughest things for a dog owner to deal with is having a dog that is aggressive. Not only is it extremely difficult to deal with an aggressive dog but it can be risky as well.
The very first thing you should do before trying to tame an aggressive dog is to figure out what it is that is making him aggressive.
Is your dog exhibiting dog on dog aggression?
If that is the case with your dog one thing you can do to get rid of some of his dog on dog aggression is to make sure you grab your dogs attention when you are approaching another dog.
If you have done any dog training with your dog you might be familiar with the watch me command. This is a great command and what is does is when you tell your dog to “watch me” they need to look you directly in the eye.
If you are able to get your dogs attention on you then you have a great chance that they will walk right by the other dog without getting aggressive.
You also need to make sure your dog is not looking directly in the other dogs eyes. When dogs make eye contact they are basically issuing a warning that they are more dominating. This can be a major cause of aggression if both dogs think they are king of the hill.
Another form of dog aggression is food aggression in dogs.
Some dogs can get very territorial and mean when food is in front of them. If this is something that sets your dog off then you need to be very careful if you have children around your dog.
One of the ways to help get rid of food aggression in dogs is to make sure that they do not get feed until everyone else in the house has finished eating their meals. This will make your dog understand that he is not in charge which is needed if you plan on training aggressive dogs.
