Stock Options, What Are They?
Stock options are the most powerful method of generating an income from the stock market. Even though they can be powerful options can be very hard to get the hang of.
So, what are stock options exactly? Options simply allow the buyer the right to buy the stock at a given price at a given date somewhere in the future. So for example if you own the $60 call that would mean that you have the right to buy the stock at $60 some time in th future before that option expires.
This means that if the stock goes up to say $80 you will be able to buy it at $60 and sell it at $80 giving you a profit of $20. On the other hand if the stock goes below $60 by expiration then your call would expire worthless and you would lose everything that you invested into it.
Trading options can potentially be very powerful, but it is also very risky. That’s why if you want to know how to purchase stock options you will find that you normally have to be preapproved by most brokers because the risk is just too great.
In fact they are so risky that people who do trade them concentrait much more on not losing money then making money. I have used them before, but any time I do I consider them a gamble. Any money I put into an options trade is money that I can afford to lose.
This way if I lose the entire value of the option it is ok, but if I was right and the price of the option shoots up it can be extremely powerful.
stock option Trading full time is not for the majority of people. Few people can master this, and it can take a lot of time. But people who are able to trade them consistantly with a lot of success have the potential to make a nice return from the market.
