No one wants to wait until they are too old to enjoy life before they retire. Some people will try to max out their retirement plans such as 401ks in order to do this.

The only problem is that the traditional 401k retirement plan is built for a long working period. The 401k withdrawal rules usually make you pay some sort of a penalty on your money if you want to take out some money from your plan early.

Learn to Trade

Learning stock market trading can be a great way to make some extra money. A lot of people think that stocks are just slow moving securities that move up a few percentage points per year, that is just not true. The yearly average stock market return is historically around 10% a year that is an average of many years of wild movements up and down.

The S&P can go down 50% one year and then up 40% the next two. Traders can make money on the up side and on the down side, that is one of the reasons it can be so powerful.

Starting a Business

In this modern world there are literally hundreds of different types of business you can start. The great thing about them is that once you are making money you can either choose to work for yourself or outsource it and hire others to run the business for you.

Technically starting a business is not retiring, but working for yourself can sure be gratifying.

Become a Land Lord

One way that has become very popular is by buying houses and renting them out. You can buy nice houses that are going to last without too much repairing effort and rent them out. Because of increasing rent costs and because you continuously pay down the mortgage this is a way to get an ever increasing income, and by owning a few rental properties may one day be able to retire at a young age.
