Beatles Rock Band Video Game
If you are anything like me then you don’t care about video games. I actually kind of hate video games to be honest. In my opinon they are a complete waste of time. So then why am I writing about this video game? Because The Beatles Rock Band is more than just a video game, it is a real interactive musical learning tool.
I am not talking about the guitar and bass guitar part of the game. I actually think that part of the game is really lame because it has next to nothing to do with playing real guitar and little to do with the songs you’re playing. It has nothing to do with guitar because playing real guitar is about a hundred times more complex than just pressing a few color coded buttons and it has little to do with the songs because I’ve found that the changes in the game rarely change in time with any chord changes in the music.
The drumming and the singing parts of the game are what I find really interesting and important. Both of these parts of the game have a direct relationship to doing these things “in real life” and they are also both obviously related to the music that you’re performing
If you sing in key and with the right timing then you’ll get a good score. No you don’t have to sing the lyrics (you can simply hum the melody if you want to) but I don’t think that’s a big deal. Musically what is essential is hitting the right notes at the right time. I think Beatles Rock Band is actually a really great way to to work on your singing. This is even more true with The Beatles Rock Band than with other Rock Band games because it includes harmony singing too.
When you do the drumming on expert level you are really hitting every single drum hit that is in the actual song! No, it’s not exactly like playing real drums, but it is close enough to be very effective practice. In fact, I’ve heard of people moving quite smoothly from playing Rock Band drums into playing real drums.
So yes, The Beatles Rock Band is a great purchase for any Beatles fan along with (obviously) The Beatles Stereo Box Set and The Beatles Mono Box Set.
