The Remastered Beatles in Stereo Box Set
The Beatles in Stereo CD Set was released in September of ‘09 it immediately became the ultimate standard for The Beatles classic albums. These remastered versions sound far superior to the old discs from the late 1980s. When a listener compares the remastered CDs to the older CDs it’s like the older discs are under a pile of old blankets while the new remastered CDs sound crystal clear so that all of the vocals and instrumentation push through the mixes instead of being muffled.
The Beatles in Stereo CD Set isn’t the only Beatles box set that came out in September of ‘09 but it is the most popular because it appeals to the biggest set of Beatles fans. The Remastered Beatles in Mono Box Set is amazing too but it appeals mostly to purists who need to listen to the original mono mixes (because that’s how the albums were “meant to be heard”) than to an music fan. While I will agree with the “purists” that there are some songs that sound better in mono than in stereo (especially some of the pre Sgt Pepper songs) overall I think the stereo set does sound most fab.
The great thing about The Beatles in Stereo CD Set is that it lets you to buy The Beatles entire 1962-70 catalog with just one order and when one considers the high quality of nearly all of their albums, it makes sense to purchase them all at once instead of just picking up some and going back for the rest later.
And beyond the wonderful albums included in this set there are also some awesome visual parts, most obviously the DVD with 13 mini documentaries on it (one for each studio album.) Along with this documentary DVD there are extensive liner notes for each album (there is some good information in these notes, particularly for new fans) and some great unpublished photographs.
I am such a huge Beatles lover that I’ve ordered (or am planning on getting) The Beatles Stereo Set, The Beatles in Mono Set, The Beatles USB Stick, and The Beatles Rock Band. But if I had to pick only one of these items, it would have to be the comprehensive stereo box set because it is the best way to listen to their music and of course, it is the music that matters most.
