Stock Option trading can help you achieve a high return, but it does also come with a lot of risks. Many new traders will overlook the risks involved and will only look at the possibilities. There are 3 mistakes new option traders make which seriously hurts their ability to make money.
- They Don’t Have a Target
Everybody wants to buy a call option and watch it shoot to the moon. Well that is pretty nice, but first we have to define where the moon actually is. If you are just staying in the position and have no plan on where to exit when you are right then you might end up staying in way too long and lose your profit.
After all if you don’t have a specific target for your option you will be leaving that decision up to the future you when you are in the trade. Making a decision when you are already in can be the worst thing you can do because your emotions can make you do things you normally wouldn’t consider wise.
- Not Cutting Losses Short
Who doesn’t want to make those 300% returns in just a couple of days, but that is an extremely rare situation. Trading is first and foremost about staying alive. The number 1 goal of a trader should be to keep their losses small.
This way if you are wrong 3 or 4 times in a row you are not out of money. If you lose all your money one 1 trade then you are not going to have any left over to come back when things start looking your way.
- Trading the Wrong Stocks
One of the things you come across when you learn to trade stocks is that some stocks are just too hard to trade. They may be up 5% one day down 5% the next. Taking some time to back test the stock or even creating a do not trade list on stocks that you have had a bad experience with in the past can work well.
All of These great stock tips could be the difference between being profitable and going broke. Taking them into consideration can be the first step towards learning how to trade and use them successfully.
