There was another anectode occurred during my wanderings throughout the Emirates’ souks which is well-worth mentioning. That time I was in Dubai along the Creek in a very impressive souk market. I saw a number of shishas – the characteristic Arabian water pipes for smoking which are frequently available in many music clubs – showcased in a shop window and boasting different, cozy colours. While I was asking the friends of mine about which one was to be considered the most suitable as a present for my father, the seller came back to us with a quite large jewel box which he promptly opened to show us its content: a number of very bright amber pendants, each of them being available with different necklaces… Though attracted by such a wonderful choice I could not avoid asking why he was suggesting amber pendants and necklaces while we were interested in shishas: “Well” – he calmly answered – “Because they beautifully match with the amber ring you have on!”
