Really, Are There Sexist Toys? (Part 1)
Everyone is always battling over something. Whether it is racism, sexism, are you too fat, are you too thin, the argument has even moved on to toys. Many people are complaining that the media is putting sexist ideas into the minds of children. Is this really happening or is the world just getting worse? These ones seem to cause the most problems.
Doctors and Nurses
This game is one of the first games many young children will play. It would seem that it is the female that is moaning about this subject and there are some legitimate reasons behind it. The doctor is always seen as the male and the nurse is always seen as the female.
However why does it matter how the companies portray this? When you look at the traditional kids outfits it is very clear that the nurses outfit is for the girls and the doctor is for either so surely the male is losing out here? A lot of people actually forget about the children and just choose this as an excuse to try and get things banned, girls are more interested in being nurses at a young age.
People are just trying to force the kids into things they do not want to do, if the girls is that interested in becoming a doctor they will grow up and get on with it.
Pirates
Even the bigger companies like Disney feel that a pirate role is best taken on by a boy. Is it right to say a girl cannot be a pirate? Of course it isn’t which is why companies do not actually care either way, people are again taking it out of proportion, if your little girl wants to be a pirate then she is able to become one.
The next part of this will discuss the all important action man and Barbie argument.
Don’t fall into the power of the media; you are the parents you can choose what Christmas toys to buy your children.
