Most Car Buyers Continue to Choose Silver
North American car buyers have continued to choose silver making it the most popular color choice for the ninth consective year. Around 57% of new cars are either silver or black.
This (2009) is the ninth consecutive year that silver has been at the top when it comes to car color choice. Todays silver paint is much more advanced than that which was used when it first became the most popular new car color. Paint and paint spraying technology is constantly improving enabling car makers to offer an ever increasing range of colors.
Although silver, black and white remain firm favorites with new car buyers the Ford car company have had succes with varied eye catching colors including Molten Orange and Grabber Blue. There is a new, compact Ford Fiesta due to arrive in the US in 2010 and this will be made avaiable in a range of much brighter, vibrant colors including bright green and red as well as the popular silver, black and white.
There is much more color variety in Europe where the small car market is very strong with 37% of vehicle sporting red, green, brown and blue paintwork.
Auto manufacturers have also become far more interested in making their interiors more attractive by using accent colors. New paints are being introduced that include glass which makes the paint glisten and shine, adding to its attraction.
Many believe that color can have a profound psychological effect. For example, red has been found to stimulate the body and mind to increase circulation whereas blue has been believed to provide a soothing effect on illnesses and pain. There is some debate among psychologists regarding the effects of color therapy.
The most popular color choice for new cars fifteen years ago was green with only about 1% of new cars in silver. Color fashions can change with the wind making it near impossible to predict the next hot trend.
