Walking to paradise in Peru
Peru is situated on the north west coast of South America, and boast a rich and diverse heritage and culture. It claims to offer some of the most exciting cuisines in the world, because of its unique relationship with many other cultures. It is a fact that many children learn their colours by looking at the different varieties of chilli pepper and fruits that are available.
It was thoughts of this that prompted me to save for a holiday in Peru, an experience that was likely to be different from others that I had recently experienced. I had an invitation which I had accepted from a mate of mine that I had not seen for thirty years. He went to South America when still in his teens, but was affected the most by his time in Peru. His decision could have been helped by the fact that he met and married a lady whilst discovering the country for himself.
Peru Holidays was there in front of me, larger than life, jumping from the pages of the search engine that I had used. I decided that I would be looking for a break that promised much more than just an old reunion between two mates. He lived and worked there, and would not have the time to guide me around his adopted land. There would come a time when I would go off on my own and travel with other people, so I wanted to find a choice of active holidays that offered some interesting places to visit.
The activities that appealed to me were the walking holidays on offer, as I was a keen walker in England over the South Downs. I knew that it was incomparable to Machu Pichu at 6000 metres, but I walked regularly and felt that I could manage the task. One of the objectives of the holiday was to discover some of the facinating old temples in the jungle, which reminded me of some the scenes for an Indiana Jones film.
