Quest for a new home by the sea (part 1)
I have had enough of living in the city, with the pollution and the vast quantities of people. It is easy to feel like a number rather than a person, and that is why we are heading for the seaside. We are down here not only for the fresh air and relaxing change of scenery. Our trip around the town is to try and find a new house, where we can begin a new life.
When we got there in the town, we went straight to the beach and saw that the tide was out a long way ahead. This town is unussual at low tide, because the sea disappears into the distance beyond the end of the pier. You often see people digging for fresh lugworm in the sand and walking the complete distance around to the other side of the pier. i have memories of a trip here with my father years ago on a similar low tide day, and remember him laughing at something. He pointed out to me a fisherman on the pier who had obviously drifted off in a deep sleep and had not notice that the tide had receded. His fishing tackle was also resting on a neat pile of sand, as there was not a drop of water to be seen anywhere!
I bought a copy of the local Echo and began to look through the property area property in westsussex. One thing that caught my eye was the large section entitled commercial property sussex which seemed to be offering plenty of properties. Perhaps I was seeing the direct results of failing businesses and repossessed business premises that has re-entered the market place.
My heart was set on one of the many Victorian town houses with features that I could lovingly restore, but my wife was not so interested. She would happily live in a new house, on the edge of the town, and had been concentrating on other areas of the newspaper. Her eye had focused on the adjacent advertisement entitled new homes in West Sussex, which had a wider reach than the town centre.
